Live Communication With The International Space Station 2017 (ISS Contact) 11th October 2017
Malaysia has since 2007 contacting the Astronaut onboard the International Space Station (ISS) once in every year starting from the first contact with the first Malaysian Astronaut, Datuk Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor who was launched to the ISS on the 10th of October 2007. The communication is using the ham radio facility at the Microsatellite Station of the National Planetarium. The Microsatellite Station has been operating since the year 1998.
The Live Communication With The International Space Station 2017 (ISS Contact) programme is part of the international Amateur Radio on The International Space Statio (ARISS) programme which was created and is managed by an international consortium of amateur radio organizations and space agencies including National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the USA, Rosaviakosmos in Russia, Canadian Space Agency (CSA) in Canada, Japan Aeronautics Exploration Space Agency (JAXA) in Japan and European Space Agency (ESA) in Europe.
Tonight (11th October 2017), starting from 11.24pm., 13 students from two (2) schools Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seafield, Subang Jaya, Selangor and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Selangor will be communicating with the NASA astronaut, Colonel Mark T. Vande Hei for the duration of nine (9) minutes using the facility at the Microsatellite Station of the National Planetarium.

The programme tonight is organised in conjunction with the National Innovation and Creative Economy Expo 2017 (NICE2017) of the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and also in conjunction with the celebration of World Space Week which normally organised from 4th-10th October every year.

Colonel Mark T. Vande Hei has served the U.S. Army as a combat engineer and in 1999, he became an assistant professor of physics at the United States Military Academy in West point. He is currently assigned to Expedition 53/54, which was launched in September 2017.
